Champion sire Redoute’s Choice, shuttling for the first time from Arrowfield Stud to the Aga Khan’s Haras de Bonneval, has taken the cold spring of northern France in his stride.

Star among the mares already confirmed in foal to him is one of the world’s most celebrated matrons, the Wertheimer brothers’ Born Gold (USA) (Blushing Groom-Riviere d’Or by Lyphard).

Born Gold is the dam of four Group winners headed by the champion Goldikova (by Anabaa), winner of 14 Group 1 races and the 2010 European Horse of the Year award. Chief among her Group 1 victories was the Breeders’ Cup Mile G1 which she won three times, a feat unmatched in Breeders’ Cup history.

Only one Blushing Groom mare has previously had a named foal by either Redoute’s Choice or his sons. That was Flames of Paris, dam of classy sprinter Hot Snitzel (by Snitzel), winner of Saturday’s ATC Sebring S. G3 and two Group 2 races, and Group 1-placed as a 2YO.

Redoute’s Choice is serving a superb book of mares in France at a fee of €70,000.
