Cruden Bay cruises home in St Albans Stakes

Not A Single Doubt ‘s fairytale season continued this evening at Moonee Valley when his 2YO son Cruden Bay scored an easy, two-length win in the $120,000 MVRC St Albans S. 1200m LR.

He is the 16th stakeswinner for Arrowfield’s sensational son of Redoute’s Choice, the 7th this season and the 5th in the past three weeks.

Bred by William Choy’s Best Western Group, Cruden Bay made an impressive winning debut at Bendigo only 12 days ago for his owner Bernard Lee who has enjoyed black type success in Singapore with another talented son of Not A Single Doubt, Always Certain.

Cruden Bay was a $60,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale purchase by his trainer Anthony Freedman and Michael Wallace Bloodstock from the draft of Brooklyn Lodge. His dam Zimaretto (by Anabaa) is a half-sister to Group 2-placed Lady Cay from the family of champion German mare Premiere Cuvee and Hong Kong Group winner Packing Whiz.

Zimaretto has a yearling colt by Snitzel, sold for $80,000 to Oliver Racing at January’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale, and the mare is in foal again to Not A Single Doubt.

Freedman has not dismissed the possibility of a Golden Slipper start, as he told Racenet‘s Brad Waters. “”I’ll talk to (jockey) Glen (Boss). He’s not in the Golden Slipper because he was going to Singapore. It’s possible but we’ll just give it a bit more thought.

“”I’ll just be guided by what he thinks and what a few other people’s opinions are. He’s in the Sires’ up there, which is also a Group 1, maybe that’s a race for him.?

A good start allowed Boss to take Cruden Bay to the front where he controlled the pace before sprinting again in the straight to beat Gracious Prospect by two lengths with Excitable Boy a head away in third place.

“”I would have preferred that he didn’t lead but he (Boss) did the right thing in the end,? Freedman said. He’s a very high quality horse and we’ll just see where we go. He’s got a big future.?

The two Not A Single Doubt yearlings in next month’s Inglis Australian Easter Sale, Vinery Stud’s filly from Sunset Express and Corumbene Stud’s colt from Dazzling (NZ), can expect plenty of attention from buyers!
