Silver Slipper is a Sweet Idea for Snitzel

“”A natural speed filly, very precocious, strong-quartered, plenty of quality”” – that was Gai Waterhouse‘s verdict when she inspected the yearling filly by Snitzel from Flidais in the Arrowfield draft at the 2012 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale.

Fourteen months later the accuracy of that assessment has been confirmed by the outstanding performance of the filly, now named Sweet Idea, to win today’s $200,000 ATC Silver Slipper S. 1100m G2 on a track that clearly didn’t suit her.

Her champion trainer, who joined James Harron to purchase Sweet Idea for $240,000, wasn’t even slightly surprised: ?I have said all along that she would be impossible to beat today and more importantly she will be impossible to beat on Golden Slipper Day.””

Sweet Idea’s jockey Jim Cassidy said, ?It was a tremendous effort. The leaders went out helter skelter and got me off the bit chasing, but you have to be positive on one of Gai?s because you know they are going to be there in the end.

?I thought it was a very courageous effort because I never really travelled in the run at all, I wouldn?t say she was 100% in the ground, but Gai Waterhouse and Jim Cassidy did the rest.?

It was Sweet Idea’s first start since her excellent second in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic on 12 January and her fifth start in a career that contains only wins or second placings since her winning debut at Randwick last October. She has already earned more than $530,000 for her owners Nick & Amy Vass, David & Luke Henderson, Wayne Cook, Danny Maher, Grant Scott, Campbell Brown, Beric Lynton, Gary & Graeme Diamond & Matt Allen.

Sweet Idea is the 11th stakeswinner for sensational young sire Snitzel , and the 7th sale graduate of Arrowfield and sister farm Bellerive Stud to achieve black type success this season.

She is also the 6th Arrowfield-sired winner of the Silver Slipper in the past 7 years, following Shaft & Satin Shoes (both by Flying Spur, 2007 & 2011), Amelia’s Dream & Melito (both by Redoute’s Choice, 2008 & 2009), and Chance Bye (by Snitzel, 2010).

With only 4 crops of racing age, Snitzel is holding his place among Australia’s top 10 sires this season, thanks to 5 stakeswinners among 53 winners and prizemoney of $3.7 million.

He is also 4th on the 2YO Sires’ list, between his Arrowfield barn-mates Not A Single Doubt (2nd) and Charge Forward (5th).

Sweet Idea’s dam Flidais, a Group-placed daughter of Timber Country and Group 1 winner Electronic, foaled a filly by Snitzel last spring and is again in foal to the son of Redoute’s Choice.

There are 10 Snitzel yearlings on offer at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale which begins tomorrow, including Bellerive Stud’s Simply Blue colt, and Arrowfield’s filly from Joie de Lago – view them here .
