Tasmanian breeders succeed with Arrowfield sires

Last week’s Magic Millions Tasmanian Sale produced good results for the local vendors of the only two Arrowfield-sired yearlings in the catalogue.

Both farms will also offer yearlings by an Arrowfield sire at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale early next month.

Leading Tasmanian farm Armidale Stud, as agent for Rob & Liz Dixon’s Reibey Lodge, sold the Snitzel filly from Butzie for the sale’s top price of $55,000. The successful buyer was former Tasmanian trainer John Blacker, now based in Victoria. He trained Butzie, by Delago Brom and descended from New Zealand Group 1 winner Our Cure, to win six races and place in the Tasmanian Oaks LR.

Blacker said, “”She’s a nice filly and she is by Snitzel and they have sold for plenty at sales around the country in recent times. Her mum won over a mile and placed past 2000 metres and with the Snitzel coming through I think it will make her into a nice filly.””

Alwyn and Judy Shaw’s Aceland Stud achieved their best-ever yearling sale result when the colt by first season sire All American from Whitemore Dynasty (by Belong To Me) was knocked down for $45,000 to Denise Martin’s Star Thoroughbreds. The colt had already made news before the Sale when the Shaws and Magic Millions generously agreed to donate half of his sale proceeds to the Salvation Army Tasmanian Bushfire Appeal.

Tasmanian-born Martin is a regular visitor to the Sale and has enjoyed recent success with another Arrowfield-sired graduate Arenzano, a daughter of Not A Single Doubt and winner of four races in Tasmania.

Armidale and Aceland will each offer an All American yearling at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale which starts on Sunday 3 March. Armidale’s four-lot draft includes the colt from Feerique, a stakes-placed daughter of Al Maher and stakeswinner All The Rave, while the Aceland consignment includes a son of the Stravinsky mare Aceland, from the family of Group 1 winners Keeper & Metal Bender.

The other 7 All American yearlings in the Melbourne catalogue will be offered by Arrowfield Stud – view the draft here Flinders Park Stud, Musk Creek Farm & Phoenix Broodmare Farm.
