Redoute's Choice & sons shine at Magic Millions Sale
Sale-toppers and seven-figure yearlings are wonderful, no doubt about that, and Arrowfield should know. We’ve supplied quite a few of them in the past decade.

There are other ways, though, to dominate a yearling sale. At last week’s Magic Millions Sale, champion sire Redoute’s Choice and his barn-mate sons Not A Single Doubt and Snitzel showed how it’s done.
Together they provided 50 (8.3%) of the 600 horses that went through the ring in the first four sessions. Forty-four sold to give a clearance rate of 90% – well above the Sale’s 83% – and they fetched a total of $9.0 million. That’s just over 13% of the Sale aggregate.
It gets even better. Collectively, Redoute’s Choice, Snitzel & Not A Single Doubt averaged $205,852, well above the equivalent Sale figure of $136,172. The trio’s median was $190,000, compared with the Sale median of $105,000.
The colts from Daralara ($575,000) and Apercu ($800,000) became the 198th and 199th yearlings by Redoute’s Choice to sell for $500,000 or more. That includes 60 seven-figure yearlings, most recently last year’s $2.6 million filly from Helsinge.
Now settling in to the Aga Khan’s French stud for the 2013 northern hemisphere season, Redoute’s Choice once again demonstrated the power of quality by heading the Sale’s sire averages for a remarkable eighth consecutive year. Ten of his eleven offered lots sold for an average price of $384,500, an 8% increase on his 2012 figure.
Snitzel’s average rose by more than 10% to $186,389 – 7.5 times his 2010 fee of $25,000 +GST. Top prices were achieved by Arrowfield’s filly from Miss Kournikova ($400,000) and Newhaven Park‘s colt from Unison ($320,000).
Out on the Gold Coast racetrack, 3YO colt Sizzling and 2YO filly Sweet Idea, close seconds in their respective Magic Millions races, displayed the talent that has made Snitzel one of Australia’s hottest young sires.
Not A Single Doubt’s 2013 yearlings are from the last of six crops conceived on a fee of $12,500 +GST, and once again they proved highly rewarding for breeders. Fifteen of his 17 lots sold for an average of almost $120,000 – more than 9 times his fee, and 21% more than his 2012 sale average.
Not A Single Doubt’s top price was $240,000, paid by David Lamond for Eliza Park‘s Get the Hint colt. Paul Messara & Blue Sky Thoroughbreds signed for his top-priced filly, a half-sister to SW Raceway, at $220,000. She was consigned by Corumbene Stud.
The next available yearlings by Redoute’s Choice are a pair of colts in the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale, but buyers don’t have to wait that long for the progeny of Snitzel and Not A Single Doubt.
