Star Wars highlights effective nick

The good debut effort of Star Wars for third in a competitive 2YO race at Canterbury today highlighted a genetic combination buyers will have no trouble finding at the 2013 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale.

Star Wars is by Starcraft from Rose O’War, a Group 2-winning daughter of Danehill and also the dam of stakeswinner Rose of Peace (by Hussonet).

Star Wars was purchased for $90,000 by Glenn & Viive Williams from the Turangga Farm draft at the 2012 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale. The Williamses also purchased the brilliant 2011 Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Karuta Queen (by Not A Single Doubt) from Turangga Farm.

Danehill is, of course, a magic name anywhere in a pedigree, and Starcraft’s affinity with him was obvious very early, when his first-crop son Star Witness, from a mare by Danehill’s son Lion Hunter, emerged to win the 2010 MRC Blue Diamond S. G1 and the VRC Ascot Vale S. G1 the following spring.

Dual stakeswinner Ain’tnofallenstar (from Ain’t Seen Nothin’ by Nothin’ Leica Dane) and Group 3-winning second-crop son Do You Think (from a Danehill mare) underlined the message.

Eight of the 14 Starcraft yearlings on offer at the Magic Millions Sale are from mares by either Danehill himself or one of his champion sire sons Redoute’s Choice, Flying Spur and Danzero.

They include three lots in the Arrowfield & Bellerive drafts , among them a juicily bred filly from the family of Forensics, Not A Single Doubt & Zizou. That’s the filly out of Flying Single, whose sister First Date has already produced the progressive 3-time Hong Kong winner Cape Canaveral to Starcraft.
