Golden Slipper prospect for Not A Single Doubt

The 2013 Golden Slipper now beckons for the brilliant filly Villa Verde after her dominant win in today’s $120,000 VRC Ottawa S. 1000m LR.

The strapping grey daughter of Not A Single Doubt settled just behind the early leaders until Michael Rodd drove her forward 300 metres from home. Villa Verde immediately put two lengths on the field and kept going to score by 1.75 lengths from Purrific in 56.73 on the Dead4 track. The time for her final 600 metres was a very smart 33.18.

It was Villa Verde’s second Listed stakes win from two starts in three weeks and took her earnings to $153,000, a quick return on the $95,000 Shaun Dwyer paid for her at this year’s Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale. Shaun trains the filly for owners Mike Buys and Rob Willis who have been friends and clients of the Dwyer stable for 15 years.

After the race Shaun enthused about Villa Verde to Thoroughbred News. “It’s a long time since I’ve had a horse this good. She’ll go to the paddock.

“I’ll have a chat to Michael Rodd…but not many horses go to the Blue Diamond and the Slipper and the one we want is the Golden Slipper, so that’s where we will be going.

“You’ve got to be confident just on the way she has done because she works well, she eats well and she just does everything right.”

Villa Verde was bred by Todd Lichti  and sold under the banner of South Australian farm Kiah Glenn, operated by Janita Edwards.

Not A Single Doubt is the sire of 11 stakeswinners, five of them successful at two.
