Group 1 performer for Not A Single Doubt

Champion South African trainer Mike Bass produced Not A Single Doubt ‘s son Castlethorpe to run a fine second in the Clairwood Rising Sun Gold Challenge 1600m G1, held this evening Australian time.

The 4YO gelding settled second in the small field during the race, and kicked gamely to hold his position as the favourite Variety Club swept to victory.

Already a Group 3 winner, Castlethorpe began his current campaign in March, winning the Fairview East Cape Sprint Cup LR, and again at Clairwood on 13 May before finishing sixth in the Scottsville Golden Horse Casino Sprint G1.

Castlethorpe’s dam Park Heiress, a Sadler’s Wells three-quarter-sister to champion European colt New Approach, was sold in foal to Not A Single Doubt by Bellerive Stud at the 2007 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale. The buyer at $38,000 was Belmont Bloodstock, acting for breeder Frank Meduri on whose behalf Blue Gum Farm then sold the resulting colt for $50,000 to Mike Bass at the 2009 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale.

Castlethorpe is bred on the same cross as Not A Single Doubt’s 2YO stakeswinner Single Spice (from a Galileo mare), Group-placed 3YO son Spirited Eagle (from a Carnegie mare) and stakes-placed 2YO Dominant (from a Montjeu mare).

Not A Single Doubt’s only other South African runner, 2YO colt Lionize (ex Arthur’s Lass by Unduplicated) was second in the Gatecrasher S. LR on the same card. Lionize, a $100,000 purchase from the 2011 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, broke his maiden in April and was fourth in a Group 2 event at Scottsville last month.

But wait, there’s more! Not A Single Doubt’s consistent Western Australian-based son Cavallo Pazzo ran third in today’s $125,000 WATC Belmont Sprint H. 1400m G3. He has won or placed in eight of his 10 starts this season, and his earnings now approach $300,000.

Interestingly, Cavallo Pazzo is from Annuity, a winning half-sister to Group 1 winner Aragen, by Rory’s Jester – the damsire of Not A Single Doubt.

Not A Single Doubt is now the sire of 24 stakes performers, no fewer than 14 of them earning black type this season, most notably the flying filly Karuta Queen, Singapore Group 1 winner Always Certain and six 2YOs.

Not A Single Doubt stands in 2012 at a fee of $24,750 inc. GST.
