Sydney campaign for star Queensland 2YO
“Wow, what a buzz, it was our most exciting win in racing in the past decade!” That was part-owner Paul Maguire‘s reaction after talented Queensland 2YO Doubtfilly scored her fourth win from six starts last Saturday.

The daughter of Not A Single Doubt cruised home in the $250,000 GCTC QTIS 600 2YO Plate, beating the good filly Snipzu by more than five lengths. It was a performance that justified Paul’s proud description of Doubtfilly as “a little-big horse, very tough and very talented, close to being the best 2YO in Queensland.”
Her latest effort confirmed a trip to Sydney where she will contest the ATC Magic Night S. 1200m G2 on 31 March. Paul reports that Doubtfilly has settled in well at Rosehill where she worked well this morning. All options for her, including a possible tilt at the Golden Slipper, will be reviewed after next Saturday.
Bred and sold by Twin Peaks for $17,500 at last year’s Magic Millions QTIS 600 Yearling Sale, Doubtfilly has earned just over $315,000 since her debut win at Townsville in November. Her dam Aussie Enchantee (by Alhaarth) is a winning daughter of the imported Woodman mare Andromaque, who won five races in France and England, including the Longchamp Prix de l’Opera G2, but left nothing of that class at stud in either Europe or Australia.
Paul says, “You’d have to say that Not A Single Doubt appears to be the dominant factor in Doubtfilly’s pedigree.”
Paul races Doubtfilly with a group that includes Russell Collins, Hayley Wheeler, Mark Sleeman, Paul Ingerman, the Cook family, and leading Mackay trainer Stuart Kendrick who selected Doubtfilly as a yearling.
Paul, who grew up riding a horse to school, has bred and raced horses for more than 20 years and is the patron of the Mackay Turf Club. With business interests in property, transport & resource services, he says, “Bloodstock is our equal fourth investment activity – but it’s the one we’re most passionate about!”
He breeds from ten mares and has also enjoyed success with Not A Single Doubt as a vendor, selling a colt for $90,000 in 2010, and a filly from Academy Angel for $130,000 at this year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale. Paul describes the filly’s sale as “our best-ever commercial result.”
Earlier this week he was back at the Magic Millions QTIS Sale, this time as vendor of Lot 225, a filly knocked down to Neil Godbolt for $50,000. And yes, she too is by Not A Single Doubt.
