2YOs charge forward in Melbourne & Adelaide

Charge Forward has added another couple of fine 2YO performances to his progeny record this season, courtesy of a pair of Arrowfield-bred sale graduates, the gelding Road Trippin’, and the filly Tormented.

All Too Hard (by Flying Spur ‘s son Casino Prince) was mightily impressive winning the VRC Sires’ Produce S. 1400m G2 at Flemington, but Charge Forward’s son Road Trippin’ was a resolute chaser. He gained black type with his third placing, a short half-head behind Pronto Pronto (by Snitzel ), and is Charge Forward’s 13th stakes performer from 155 runners.

Road Trippin’ (ex Road to Damascus by Flying Spur) was bred by Arrowfield in partnership with John Leaver & Alan Jones, and sold for $22,500 by Bellerive Stud at the 2011 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale. Victorian trainer Stephen Theodore was the buyer and returned to last month’s Melbourne Sale to buy Road Trippin’s full brother for $40,000.

The Arrowfield & Jungle Pocket-bred Tormented was a more expensive purchase at $160,000 from the Arrowfield draft at the 2011 Inglis Australian Easter Sale, but rewarded her owner Laurence Eales with a gutsy debut win over 1000 metres at Morphettville today.

Charge Forward has now had three 2YO winners in Australia this season and one of them, Cavalry Rose, lines up in tomorrow’s $250,000 Canberra RC Black Opal S. LR with a 2-for-2 record.

Charge Forward will be represented by an 11-strong draft at next month’s Inglis Australian Easter Sale, including two colts and a filly in the Arrowfield draft.
