Bellerive graduates land 2YO Inglis Premier quinella
“It’s a wonder you didn’t hear us in Sydney!” was Bellerive Stud manager Brian Gorman‘s comment on his staff’s reaction when Snitzerland and Road Trippin’ quinella-ed the $250,000 Inglis Premier 2YO S. at Mornington today.

In the final stages of preparing this year’s draft for the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, Team Bellerive took a break during a parade to watch their 2011 Melbourne Sale graduates repay their purchase prices in less than 72 seconds.
Snitzerland ( Snitzel -Monte Rosa by Fraar) made an impressive debut when second in the VRC Ottawa S. LR at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day and romped home today to score by 4.5 lengths from Road Trippin’ ( Charge Forward -Road To Damascus by Flying Spur ), with 1.5 lengths back to Repousser in third place.
It was the second Inglis bonus race win in the past month for Snitzerland’s trainer Gerald Ryan, following the success of Charge Forward’s 2YO daughter Cavalry Rose at Rosehill on 21 January.
Snitzerland’s jockey Corey Brown said after the race, “She really impressed me today, she has a great turn of foot and the owners are going to have plenty of fun with her.” Those owners are Neil Werrett, also part-owner of a certain champion sprinter going round at present, and Steve McCann, co-owner of another exciting juvenile, Samaready.
Arrowfield-bred Snitzerland was a $125,000 purchase by Darby Bloodstock and less than a year later has earned $163,000.
Brian Gorman says, “She was always a lovely filly, a pleasure to prepare and sell.” She is the fourth 2YO winner by Snitzel this season, after Amorino (sold by Arrowfield at Magic Millions Gold Coast), Sizzling and Flying Snitzel (also a Bellerive graduate of the 2011 Melbourne Sale).
Today’s result has boosted elevated Snitzel from fifth to second position on the Australian 2YO Sires’ list with prizemoney of $576,100. Redoute’s Choice is third, and Charge Forward is eighth on the same table.
Snitzerland’s half-brother by Hussonet (USA) topped last month’s Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale when purchased by Mauro Poletti for $140,000. Their dam Monte Rosa is again in foal to Snitzel.
Road Trippin,’ bred by Arrowfield with John Leaver & Alan Jones, cost his trainer Stephen Theodore $22,500 and, after two placings in three starts, has earned $52,100. His full brother will be offered in the 24-lot Bellerive draft at the 2012 Melbourne Sale which starts on Monday 27 February. Their dam Road to Damascus has a 2011 colt by Manhattan Rain .
