Starcraft 2YO wins on debut at Flemington

The Tennessee Vain family produced its second first-up 2YO winner this season by an Arrowfield stallion when Sell In May scored in determined fashion today at Flemington.

The athletic chestnut filly by Starcraft from Savannah Rain settled fifth of the six runners over 1000 metres, and when asked by jockey Stephen Baster she produced a finish strong enough to pip Glimmer and favourite Donna Cattiva on the line.

Bred by the Hong Kong Breeders Club, Sell In May was purchased for $NZ100,000 by the Balmerino Racing Partnership from the Highview Stud draft at the 2011 New Zealand Premier Sale.

Savannah Rain is an unraced grand-daughter of multiple Group 2 winner Tennessee Vain, dam of three precocious stakeswinners by Bletchingly, Tennessees Morn, Magic & Mist. Another high-achieving member of this family is Mirror Mirror, dam of promising 2YO filly No Looking Back (by Redoute’s Choice ) who won her first start at Warwick Farm on 19 November.

Leading third crop sire Starcraft has already been represented by seven stakes performers in Australia this season, including 3YO stakeswinners Celebrity Girl and Perfect Punch. His ten stakeswinners to date are headed by dual stakeswinners Star Witness and We Can Say It Now.

The 2012 Magic Millions Gold Coast catalogue includes 17 yearlings by Starcraft, eight of them in the Arrowfield draft .
