Redoute's Choice moves up Sires' list

Today’s Listed Stakes quinella at Eagle Farm by 4YOs Essington and Metallurgical, plus a Melbourne win by 3YO filly Maraaseem have elevated Redoute’s Choice to second position on the 2010/11 Australian General Sires’ list.

Arrowfield’s champion sire now has Australian prizemoney this season of $7,160,851, splitting Lonhro and High Chaparral, and with 13 domestic stakeswinners, shares the lead on that table with Encosta de Lago.

The $80,000 BRC Ascot H. 1200m LR was the second stakes victory this year for Essington, who was bred by Michael Ryan from the Encosta de Lago mare Besame Mucho, and originally purchased for $150,000 by Nick Williams at the 2008 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. He has now won 10 of his 18 starts and earned just over $300,000 for his owners Messrs Katsanevas & Lawrence and trainer Darryl Hansen.

For Metallurgical (ex Lady Capel by Last Tycoon), the race provided his third consecutive second placing in a Listed Stakes race, among nine placings and five wins in a 21-start career.

Shadwell Stud‘s 3YO filly Maraaseem (ex Warm Smytzer by Zabeel) scored her fourth and most valuable win from 14 starts this season when she won the $100,000 VRC Rivette Series Final Handicap over 1600 metres. Bred by Emily Krstina (Aust) Pty Ltd, Maraaseem was a $400,000 Easter Sale yearling in 2009, and is trained by David Hayes.

Redoute’s Choice has ended all but one of the last six seasons among Australia’s top 3 sires on prizemoney – a record not matched by any other stallion. He will stand the 2011 season at a fee of $137,500 inc. GST.
