Redoute's Choice sire sons star at Caulfield

On the same day that ANZ Bloodstock News examined the growing success of the sire sons of Redoute’s Choice , Stratum and Not A Single Doubt highlighted the increasingly firm grip that Arrowfield’s champion sire has on Danehill’s legacy.

An interesting and competitive field of 3YOs lined up in the $100,000 MRC Zeditatve S. LR and at the end of the 1200 metres Eclair Mystic (Stratum) confirmed the good opinion trainer Robert Smerdon holds of him, but the run of Spirited Eagle (Not A Single Doubt) attracted equal attention, when he came off a wide run to finish strongly for second, a half-neck from the winner. Both horses are entered for the VRC Australian Guineas 1600m G1 on 5 March, as is Roadtrain (also by Not A Single Doubt) who did well to run fifth after a rocky run up the straight.

Redoute’s Choice himself chimed in on the Australia Day programme at Caulfield with the third consecutive victory by a lightly raced 4YO mare who looks a fine chance become his 70th individual stakeswinner.

As reported by Racing and Sports, Varenna Miss (ex Mica’s Pride by Bite the Bullet) relied on raw ability to get home, after leading and then losing her way slightly in the straight.

The mare’s trainer Tony Noonan said afterwards, “You look at her and she travels so easily in the run but she just gets lost out there in front.”

“Once that horse [Perfect Hostess] challenged she picked up a gear and she’s been able to do that twice where she looked vulnerable and won both times, it was a pretty good effort.

“I think she would be far better just sitting back off of them and having something to chase.”

Black type now beckons, with Varenna Miss set to contest the MRC Hyderabad R.C Stakes 1200m G3 on 12 February.

And – because we know you’re wondering! – eight sons of Redoute’s Choice have now left stakes performers, with Stratum (5 SW), Not A Single Doubt (3 SW) and Snitzel (2 SW) heading the list by stakeswinners.
