Daiwa Major - Via Medici
Chestnut 2016 16.0½hh

Japan's Champion 2YO Colt, unbeaten in 4 starts at two, a triple Group 1-winning miler & the only 3YO winner of the Hong Kong Mile G1. Now the sire of 13 first-crop 2YO winners in Japan, inc. a track record-setter. His first Australian 2YOs run in 2024/25.

HYPOTHETICAL MATING

Overview

Three-time Group 1 winner Admire Mars, whose first southern hemisphere yearlings sold consistently well in 2024, has much to add to the growing story of Japanese stallion success in this part of the world.

A son of Group 1 winner & leading sire Daiwa Major (by Sunday Silence) & the French Group winner Via Medici, Admire Mars was Japan’s unbeaten Champion 2YO Colt of 2018 after winning all four of his juvenile starts.

His 2YO season culminated with victory in the 1600-metre Hanshin Asahi Hai Futurity S. G1, where he pulled clear of the field to score by two lengths in 1:33.9.

Admire Mars returned at three to claim the Tokyo NHK Mile Cup G1, overcoming a difficult, wide run in transit to sprint hard in the straight and score in 1:32.4.

The colt ended 2019 by playing his part in a Japanese cleanup at the Hong Kong International Races, defeating Waikuku and champion Beauty Generation in 1:33.25 to become the first 3YO winner of the Hong Kong Mile G1. He contested the same race a year later and closed out his ~A$5 million career with a fighting third behind champion Golden Sixty.

Standing at Japan’s famed Shadai Stallion Station, Admire Mars has begun his stud career in attention-grabbing style, with 3 first-crop 2YO winners in a single mid-summer weekend: the filly Jardinier at Kokura and the colts Mars Odyssey & Seiun Big Bang at Fukushima.

He has since added a further 9 individual winners including the filly Embroidery who scored by 7 lengths at Niigata, in the process setting a new 2YO track record.

“I've worked with a few horses from the Japanese stallion Admire Mars, and they've all got really good minds. They're very quiet and athletic.”
