Rosehill double for Not a Single Doubt

Rosehill double for Not a Single Doubt

Winners from the second and third crops of Arrowfield’s starry young sire Not a Single Doubt gave him an eye-catching double at Rosehill today.

In the first race on the card, showy 2YO chestnut filly Karuta Queen (ex Card Queen by Final Card), pictured, bolted in by 3.75 lengths over 1100 metres, with a male-dominated field behind her.

Bred by Stuart Ramsey’s Ramsey Pastoral Co Pty Ltd, Karuta Queen was offered under the Turangga Farm banner at the 2010 Magic Millions Premier Sale, and sold to part-owner Glenn Williams for $30,000 – a sum she has more than returned on her first raceday appearance.

Karuta Queen, who resembles Not a Single Doubt’s damsire, Rory’s Jester, came into the race under the radar, with a trial second at Canberra the only public hint of her ability. Drawn wide today, she was driven across to lead on the rail by jockey Tommy Berry, and rolled along sweetly in front. Her inexperience showed as she rounded the bend and took a few moments to balance up again, before extending to put the result beyond doubt.

The sources of her precocity are not hard to find: she is by a brilliant 2YO stakes-winning son of Redoute’s Choice from a winner of the VATC Blue Diamond Prelude G3. Juvenile winners abound in the family, including the top-class performer Vitalic, whose best win was the 1988 Caulfield Guineas G1.

Six races after Karuta Queen’s win, 3YO colt Exploitable Doubt (ex Exploits by Strategic) made a splendid city debut with an all-the-way win over 1400 metres that took his record to 3-from-3. His two previous wins were at Scone where he is trained for owner Mr A. Aguire by Rod Northam, who confessed after the race to some nervousness about pitching Exploitable Doubt into metropolitan Saturday company. However, he added, “He’s been running times, he’s a really nice horse, I’m really happy.”

Exploitable Doubt was bred by Mr A. & Mrs D. Griffin and sold for $8,500 at the 2009 Scone Yearling Sale. He is descended from the imported mare Donna Nook, also the ancestress of Golden Slipper winner Catbird, G1 Ike’s Dream, G1 Half Hennessy, G2 Danbird, G2 Maizcay and SW Opportunity.

Not a Single Doubt is the sire of three Group winners – Squamosa, Doubtful Jack & Always Certain – from his first two crops, and is currently 4th on the Australian 3rd Season Sires’ list. Standing at a fee of $13,750 (inc. GST), he is fully booked in 2010.
