Look at the summary of Redoute’s Choice’s stud career and Australia naturally dominates the figures. His Australian runners, including 426 winners, have won more than 84% of his total progeny earnings of $64.4 million.

But next on the list is Hong Kong where two sons of the champion sire are making waves this season. One of them, Dr Howard Liang‘s homebred 3YO colt California Choice (ex Storminwinter by Seattle Slew) is now two-for-two after a 3.3 length victory over 1000 metres at Sha Tin this evening.

The strapping colt, a three-quarter brother to dual Group 2 winner California Dane (by Danehill), won his debut over the same distance in devastating fashion on 4 December.

4YO gelding Redoute Star (from Significant Moment, a half-sister by Bletchingly to champion sire Zabeel) has won three of his six starts in Hong Kong this season. A $710,000 Hong Kong Jockey Club purchase from the 2008 Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Redoute Star topped the 2008 Hong Kong International Sale when owner Cheng Keung-fai outlaid $HK5.5 million for him.

Both California Choice and Redoute Star are trained by Tony Cruz.

The other two winners by Redoute’s Choice in Hong Kong this season are 4YO Packing OK (ex Abbadena by Runyon), and durable 9YO campaigner Global Win (ex Hit and Giggle by Marauding), one of five members of his sire’s first crop still racing. (The others are Hobson’s Choice, Private Certifier and Zafran in Australia, and Time and Moment in New Zealand.)
