Pyrography shines for Danzero at Rosehill

Hardly a week goes by without a reminder of Danzero ‘s great value as a proven transmitter of the Danehill line’s best qualities.

This week’s reminder was delivered yesterday at Rosehill by his smart 3YO daughter Pyrography (ex Burningwood by Tabasco Cat), bred and raced by Arrowfield in partnership with Katsumi Yoshida, of Shadai Farm, Japan, and trained at Scone by Paul Messara. Mr Yoshida was represented on course by Shadai’s stallion manager Dr Tsunoda.

Nicely weighted on 53kg against a field of older mares over 1100 metres in her first Sydney start, Pyrography was given a perfectly judged ride by Corey Brown who took advantage of her gate speed and directed her to the front, where she travelled sweetly. At the 300-metre mark Brown asked her to accelerate, and the filly responded generously to skip clear and score by three-quarters of a length from Phenomenal Lass, with Schipper a half-neck away in third place. Pyrography’s time was 1.04.14, and 34.16 for the final 600 metres.

The win took the filly’s record to four wins and two placings from seven starts, and her prizemoney beyond $100,000, including yesterday’s $20,000 BOBS bonus. Her next start will be in the BRC Mode Stakes 1200m LR on 4 December.

Pyrography is out of the Tabasco Cat mare Burningwood, a winning daughter of multiple US Graded Stakes winner Wood So and dam of Japanese G2 winner Fireflaught (by Special Week). Burningwood also has two colts by Starcraft , an unraced 2YO named Space Mission, and a foal born in August this year, as well as a yearling full sister to Pyrography, to be offered by Arrowfield as Lot 39 at the 2011 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale in January.

And in case you’re wondering where her name comes from, Pyrography means “writing with fire”, and is the art of decorating wood with burn marks resulting from the controlled application of a heated object such as a poker.
